Photographer, architect, and writer Micah Sarut’s award-winning work clearly reflects the influence of his architectural education, delighting in the interplay of light and shadow and their effects on form, texture, and colour. Earning degrees in architecture and East Asian Languages and Cultures from the University of Southern California laid the foundation for his first major artistic influence, a year at Waseda University in Tokyo. This influence constantly informs his work to this day. His preferential use of large panoramic formats usually reserved for landscape photography creates a new and unusual perspective and conveys powerful drama with the simple and often everyday, urban subject matter. He invites the observer to look beyond the first glance, and eventually the perceived simplicity dissolves to divulge the detailed and multi-layered secrets.

He has recently won first prize in the Independent on Sunday travel photography awards in the UK, and shoots for Insight Guides. He is also a widely published and award-winning architect (reg: Netherlands) and travel writer with a monthly column for the US version of I am Find his architecture at
