Dogo Onsen Spa

Dogo Onsen Spa

In the city of Matsuyama on the island of Shikoku stands the Dogo Onsen, one of Japan's first hot springs. The origin is lost in the mists of time, but it was first mentioned around 759 AD. The current building dates from 1894 and contains a private outbuilding built for the visit of the Meiji emperor. This building was the model for the popular animated feature, "Spirited Away", as a bathhouse for the gods.
